Excerpt from In the Christian Life

The following brief addresses, designed to suggest subjects for meditation, were originally addressed to the members of the Cambridge University Church Society, in the October Term, 1875, and afterwards printed for their use. They are now published at the request of friends who think that they may be of service to others, but I have not thought it well to remove all traces of their original destination. The special applications of the apostolic lessons in one or two places will naturally call out corresponding thoughts where they are not themselves directly applicable.
